Infiniti G35 CV Boot
The Infiniti G35 CV Boot keeps the lubricant in and dirt and water out of the joint, allowing the axle's constant velocity joint to smoothly transmit engine power through every turn and suspension movement. The CV Boot is wrapped around the inner and outer joints of the halfshafts. It flexes through suspension up and down movement and steering angles to contain grease and prevent metal-to-metal friction that would cause destruction. Infiniti offered two main CV Boot materials, traditional pliable rubber and tougher thermoplastic, during the production run, and the two CV Boot styles do basically the same job, although the plastic version is less susceptible to heat cracking while the rubber version absorbs vibration slightly better. The G35 trims all use tight clamp rings that securely lock the CV Boot to the vehicle's joint housings and axle shaft. Preventative measures have been taken to stop road debris and moisture from rapidly wearing out this part. By regularly glancing under the cars for rips and grease spots, G35 owners can catch this damage early on and keep the constant velocity joint from failing.
