Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front or rear of the vehicle, support it on jackstands, and block the wheels at the opposite end. Remove the cap from the brake fluid reservoir and the wheels. Work on one brake assembly at a time, using the assembled brake for reference if needed. Inspect the brake disc carefully, and if machining is required, remove the disc. For floating (non-Brembo) calipers, push the piston completely back into its bore using an AC-clamp. As the piston is depressed, ensure the master cylinder reservoir does not overflow. Wash the brake caliper with brake cleaner, ensuring not to blow off brake dust with compressed air. For front calipers, remove and install parts as specified, taking note of brake springs, clips, and the pad's wear sensor. Caution: 2007 and later 635 Sedan models may have directional brake pads; match the arrows with rotor rotation. For rear calipers, remove and install components as instructed, keeping in mind the configuration of brake springs and clips. When reinstalling the caliper, tighten all specified parts correctly. For fixed (Brembo) calipers, locate and remove pad pins and the cross-spring. Only remove one pad at a time and cautiously push the caliper piston(s) into their bore(s), ensuring the reservoir does not overflow. Prepare and position new brake pads accordingly, and install pad pins and the cross-spring correctly. For all calipers, install the wheels, lower the vehicle, and tighten lug nuts properly. Depress the brake pedal a few times, check the brake fluid level, and ensure brakes work correctly before regular use.
