Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands placed under the frame rails. Remove the wheel, any lower engine splash shields, the suspension reinforcement brace, the shock absorber lower mounting fasteners, the balljoint from the steering knuckle with a balljoint removal tool, the nut on the balljoint stud, the mounting fasteners holding the control arm to the front suspension crossmember, the shock absorber, the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle, and the control arm front pivot and rear mounting bracket fasteners. Check the balljoint for excessive play or looseness and the condition of the rubber bushings. Installation is the reverse of removal, transferring the steering lock stud to the replacement control arm if necessary and installing a new cotter pin on the balljoint stud after tightening the nut. Raise the lower control arm with a floor jack to simulate normal ride height before tightening the lower control arm and lower shock absorber mounting fasteners. Install the wheel and lug nuts, lower the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to the torque, and have the front end alignment checked and, if necessary, adjusted.
