Prior to starting the procedure, drain the fuel tank to approximately the 7/8 level. This adjustment is necessary for safe access to the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module.

To disassemble the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module used in 2004 through 2006 G35 Sedans and 2004 G35 Coupes, carefully disengage the catches and separate the fuel level sensor assembly from the fuel filter/fuel pump assembly far enough to access the fuel pump electrical connector. Disconnect the connector and separate the two assemblies, then remove and discard the old outlet pipe 0-ring. If either the fuel level sensor or the fuel temperature sensor must be replaced, the unit must be replaced as a single assembly. To replace the fuel pump, disengage the fuel pump retainer cap from the lower end of the fuel filter housing and pull the cap and fuel pump out of the filter housing, then remove the rubber grommet from the outlet end of the pump and discard it. To replace the fuel filter, remove the fuel pressure regulator by spreading the fuel pressure regulator mounting tangs apart and pulling the regulator out of the fuel filler housing, then remove and discard the old pressure regulator O-ring. Install the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, and fuel level sensor assembly, making sure to use a new O-ring and rubber grommet, and to align the outlet pipe on the fuel level sensor with the outlet pipe on top of the fuel filter housing.

If the fuel pressure is higher than the specified value, you should replace the fuel pressure regulator. The fuel pressure regulator is a component of the fuel pump/fuel level sensor module and needs to be replaced to bring the pressure within the specified range.
