  To access clutch components, the transmission is typically removed without taking out the engine from the car. However, if there is a major overhaul of the engine, then it is advisable to check and replace worn clutch components because they are relatively cheap as compared to reaching where they are. Assumptions are that the engine stays in place throughout this process. First, remove the transmission from the vehicle and support the engine during this process using an engine support fixture or hoist. The Release Bearing may be left attached to the transmission housing for now. For ease of clutch disc removal, utilize a clutch alignment tool through the clutch disc hub for support .Inspect flywheel and pressure plate indexing marks and add your own if needed until it is properly aligned when installed. Slowly loosen pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts in criss-cross pattern, remove them with pressure plate as well as clutch discs while supporting the clutch disc during removal. The examination must encompass all parts including flywheel cracks, heat checking and grooves; lining wear, loose rivets and damage on a clutch disc; scoring, wear or damage on pilot bearing in crankshaft respectively. Replace those that show wearing out or damage. To install a new pilot bearing lightly grease it and drive it into its recess with suitable tool ensuring that seal end faces transmission .Thoroughly clean oil or grease from both surfaces on flywheel and pressure plate respectively. Center clutch disc with an alignment tool by placing it against flywheel together with pressure plate and gradually secure pressure plate-to-flywheel bolts by tightening them in a criss-cross pattern.In proper tightening situation remove alignment tools.The final steps involve fitting of the clutch release bearing along with release cylinder before re-installing all other previously removed parts plus re-installing of transmission.
