Infiniti G35 Differential
The Infiniti G35 Differential allows every drive wheel to rotate at the appropriate speed needed during a turn, fighting against tire scrub and enabling the sporty sedan to corner smoothly. The Differential is mounted on the rear axle in the Infiniti rear wheel drive layout and channels engine torque through a ring and pinion then through a bevel gear set to direct power left and right and allow different wheel speeds. The early G35 models relied on a traditional open Differential. This Differential delivers equal torque to each wheel. While this works great on dry pavement, on ice, it can send all the power to the spinning tire. The subsequent sport-minded versions within the Infiniti series are equipped with a limited-slip Differential. This Differential incorporates both a clutch pack and a spring assembly, which serve to direct torque to the wheel that possesses greater grip. As a result, the G35 experiences improved launches and displays enhanced stability during curve exits. Although every design serves the same basic purpose, the main difference is in traction management. - Q: How to remove and install a differential on Infiniti G35?A:Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Block the front wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Place the transmission in Neutral with the parking brake off. Drain the differential lubricant. Remove the ABS sensors from the differential. Remove the rear stabilizer bar. Detach the driveaxles from the side gear flanges. Support the driveaxles with wire or rope - don't let them hang by the other CV joints. Mark the relationship of the driveshaft to the pinion flange, then unbolt the driveshaft from the flange. Suspend the driveshaft with a piece of wire (don't let it hang by the center support bearing). Support the differential with a floor jack. Remove the mounting bracket nut at the rear of the differential. Remove the two differential front mounting bolts. Slowly lower the jack and remove the differential out from under the vehicle. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to the torque values. Fill The differential with the proper lubricant. Apply the parking brake, then raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Drain the differential lubricant. Remove the three upper bolts from the engine mounting bracket. Remove the right-bank catalytic converter. Remove the front stabilizer bar. Remove the steering gear mounting bolts. Remove the front driveaxles. Remove the left-front side shaft. Remove the front driveshaft. Remove the suspension crossmember. Detach the breather tube from the top of the differential. Support the differential with a floor jack. Remove the mounting bolts and slowly lower the differential. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure. Tighten all fasteners to the torque values and the Specifications. Fill the differential with the proper lubricant.
