Infiniti G35 Universal Joint
The Infiniti G35 Universal Joint lets the driveshaft flex while still delivering engine torque, preventing harsh vibration as the rear suspension travels. Each rear wheel model uses one Universal Joint at the transmission slip yoke and another at the differential flange so the shaft can pivot with every bump yet stay aligned with rotating components of the Infiniti driveline. Inside each Universal Joint a cross shaped trunnion spins within four hardened steel bearing cups packed with grease, and snap clips lock the cups in place. Early and later G35 editions both rely on a sealed factory style that arrives lubricated, but some production runs across the core G35 lineup also featured a serviceable style sporting a grease fitting for periodic packing, the chief difference being the ability to restore lubricant rather than replace a dry unit. When a Universal Joint dries out it may squeak at low speed, clunk during gear shifts, or send a steady vibration through the G35 cabin, warning Infiniti owners to fit a fresh Universal Joint to keep their Infiniti running smooth.
